A representative from the EU P2P dual-use project attended and contributed to the National Workshop on the Implementation of International Requirements for Nuclear Import-Export Control in the United Arab Emirates, organised by the national Federal Nuclear Regulatory Authority in Dubai from 15-17 November 2016.
The objective of the workshop was to present the legal and technical aspects of the international trade control of nuclear-related and dual-use equipment, materials and technologies implemented by the national regulations that implement the international standards and support of the UAE national nuclear policy. The meeting was attended by representatives of key stakeholders from the Federal and Emirates’ entities, the Gulf Countries Cooperation and the United States of America. The EU P2P consortium, with the support of the EU Delegation in the UAE, presented the dual-use goods’ trade control system and mechanisms, which embeds the nuclear items, as well as the projects of amendments to the system for the future. The European principles of control and their implementation were extensively commented and referred to as international good practices for all interested partner countries and organisations.
