Regional Workshop for Eastern Partnership Countries

With the second Regional Workshop for Eastern Partnership Countries which took place on 28-29 June 2017, in Chisinau, Moldova, the implementing authority, BAFA completed a successful series of regional events within the framework of the current COARM project.

The workshop was dedicated to state officials and other representatives from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and the Ukraine who were given the opportunity to discuss regional developments in the area of strategic trade management for conventional arms and military goods with their counterparts of neighbouring countries as well as EU experts.

After the opening ceremony, an EU expert provided pertinent information on recent developments in international export control regimes as well as on latest amendments of the EU policy. Subsequently, a round-table session on end-use verification took place enabling participants and EU experts to engage to in-depth discussions on this very important issue.

The focus of the second day was on counter-measures for arms diversion. A representative of Conflict Armament Research Ltd. provided an insight into the work undertaken by the organisation and reported on their latest findings. Moreover, an expert from Lithuania shared some recent real-life cases from customs perspective. The event was completed by a discussion on internal compliance mechanisms.

In Chisinau, the implementer was supported by experts from Sweden, Lithuania, Greece and the Czech Republic as well as Conflict Armament Research Ltd.
